"What is a fishy fellow like thee doing all of the way out of water, stuck within a human net, hmm? Thou shalt die if remaining upon land, shall thou not?"
As though he were quite literally a small fish, Bertha took the net â and, of course, the merman in it â up into her hands, sat down upon the crag overlooking the ocean, its tide now low, and began attempting to untangle him while humming a simple melody. Eventually, she started to speak, half to herself, and half to the merman â if, of course, he spoke the same tongue as did the local humans. (Or, as giants such as Bertha knew them, the little folk. What were merfolk but a different, but still little, folk?)
"Ohh, what have those vile little men been doing to thee? Hmm? What had they planned for thee in such ill, harm'd state?"
It would be only a few more moments of handiwork, and then â sploosh! Into the water the merman went, and beside Bertha the net was discarded. Bertha relaxed her shoulders, sat back, and watched the surface of the water curiously. Would the merman emerge and thank her, or swim off with narry a word?
This, shockingly enough, hadn't been the first time Seymour had found himself trapped inside a net.
It was, however, the first time that the merman had encountered a being as large as Bertha; much, much larger than any shark or even whale that could be found within the depths of the sea he called home. So naturally, he had been completely and utterly terrified upon first hearing-- and then seeing-- her approach.
To his horror, she had spotted him there, in his helpless and ensnared state upon the surface, and it had been at the exact moment they met eyes that he had decided to come to terms with the fact that this would be the end of his short and relatively uneventful little life because surely she was going to pick him up and eat him and swallow him in one gulp and then--
She did indeed pick him up, net and all, but then she was... helping him? He remained silent throughout the entire untangling process, feeling too stiff with fear to respond to any of her words. Her tone was jolly and brash, but also warm and perhaps even caring in a way that he hardly ever expected to hear from anyone, let alone a giant. And she wasn't talking about eating him. At least... he thought she wasn't?
Seymour didn't have too much time to think about what she was saying before he felt the net finally give way beneath him, and there was a rush of air around him and a loud splash before he found himself free and surrounded by the ocean once more.
He sucked in a deep breath, allowing the familiar salt water to pass through his gills as he was finally able to process what had just happened. His first instinct was to turn tail and swim back home, deep beneath the waves where the giant that still sat upon the shore couldn't possibly reach him.
But... said giant had just rescued him-- saved his life, even. Who knew how long he would've been struggling in that net if she hadn't arrived? Not to mention the fact that she had every opportunity to harm him, and she didn't. It would've been easier and far less risky to swim away from the situation, yes, but he held his tail steady, considering the gratitude he couldn't help but feel as a result of having been saved.
After a few more moments of internal conflict, that very feeling of gratitude won out over his fear, and he slowly rose up towards the surface, poking the top of his head out of the water to peer up curiously at the massive form that still loomed over the sea. His eyes met Bertha's once more, but he didn't yet speak a word, still unsure of whether further interaction with the giant was a good idea.

"You... are liking the animals very much also, hmm?" -Ingvar :> because he may like birds a whole lot but i think he would also find Bruno's rats really neat
As inconvenient and distressing as his visions of the future often were, there were certain, infrequent times where Bruno found himself lamenting the lack of a vision to precede an event rather than the presence of one.
This seemed to be one of those times.
Sure, an actual, honest-to-God giant wasn't anything he would've thought to deliberately call upon the future to look for, but it really would've been nice for his gift to have provided him with a more involuntary glimpse of it, or at the very least one of those strange gut feelings that something big (...literally, he supposed) was about to happen-- because now he found himself standing here, in the middle of the woods, all alone and completely unprepared for it.
The gentle rumble of Ingvar's voice, which had sounded from behind just moments ago, had made him jump, which in turn had sent the rat he had been stroking in his lap scrambling into the fabric of his ruana for cover. Upon pulling himself to his feet, he had turned around to be met with the sight of the humanlike figure, as tall and ominous as the mountains that surrounded the Encanto, towering over him.
Dios mĂo.
He stood there, muscles stiff and hazel eyes wide with a fear not unlike that of a prey animal cornered by a hungry predator. A long silence hung in the air, and one might've expected it to have eventually been broken by a scream and footsteps hurrying off in the opposite direction-- but Bruno was finally able to open his mouth and--
"...Oh." he said dumbly, blinking once up at Ingvar. "...You're... You're tall."
Understatement of the century. he only thought afterwards, but in the moment the sheer size of the creature standing before him was the only thing his mind could seem to reasonably comprehend.

well that was certainly odd, she'd had sworn this tree was knocked down just a few days ago. normally it wouldn't be a problem, with all the crazy happenings in this town, honestly this pales in comparison to some of the stuff she's seen. but no, she had to get tangled up in this since her father was throwing a hissy fit over it. well, he certainly was passionate about his craft, that's for sure. oh well, it'll be a big hassle to cut it down again, but hey, that's what the corduroy's were for!

@riiese liked for a starter from Liam ...for Ingvar
Days added up to weeks and weeks turned into months. In the end, Liam couldn't tell anymore how long he'd been gone. He saw the landscape changed, autumnal shades of yellows and reds yielded a hopeful palette of spring colours; the trees were just at the cusp of bearing leaves again, the first flowers lined the pathways and the grass was lush and green.
Despite the city child's innate disdain for the great outdoors, he could appreciate the setting, but more so because it meant he was about to meet an old friend. He found Ingvar by the apple trees, and he listened to the gentle giant making music for a while before the mage made his present known, adding percussion to the song by clapping his hands and snapping his fingers.
"You got a vacant spot in your band I can fill?," he asked with a grin.
#Heeeeeeeyyyy :D#Hope that works for you ^^#I'm so happy you're still around!!#Ingvar and Liam#riiese#Thread: Liam

"I will not let anything happen to you." -Ingvar, for the little fantasy au we had? :>
Audrey nodded against Ingvarâs worn finger, too exhausted to say much at the moment. She held on tightly to his finger as they made their way through the forest. Shivering in her nightgown, she wondered vaguely where Ingvar was taking her â regardless, she knew it would be better than that awful tower with that awful man who came round to do whatever he pleased with her. Audrey was grateful that Ingvar had scooped her up and out of the tower after he had found her cowering in her bed after a particularly rough night and decided he had had enough. But at the same time she was terrified. Terrified of the world sheâd never seen before. Terrified of what the man would do when he discovered his prize was gone. Terrified of the unknown. Audrey closed her eyes against the cool night air. She felt torn between familiarity and adventure. But steeling her nerves, she reminded herself that with the unknown came freedom.
âIngvar?â She asked meekly, âWhere do we go now?â

@riiese requested a starter!
For every day they had incredible unbelievable out of this world adventures, there would be just as many that were slow and boring. A lazy day here and there wasn't inherently a bad thing-- Except when Mabel was feeling like it was supposed to be a more eventful type of day and no one was willing to indulge her.
But that's fine! Sometimes, a girl just has to make up her own adventures. Today, she was going to play around in the woods with her grappling hook and not tell anyone where she was going and when they could expect her back! There was no way that could go wrong, right?
It started innocently enough, grappling up a few branches and swinging over to new trees gave her quite the rush. She felt like a lady Tarzan! Or maybe that was Jane? Who actually cares, that cliff was just begging to be scaled! Without a moments hesitation, the girl shot herself up to the very top, hooting and hollering the whole way.
"Weeheee! Let's goooo!" She squealed with glee, immensely proud of her achievement until a gusty breeze tussled with her fluffy hair. Fear and panic gripped Mabel's heart and she looked out over what would have been such a magnificent view of the Oregon wilderness... Had it not been for the several hundred foot drop below.
... Not letting anyone know where she was going was a huge mistake, wasn't it?

Hilda told him that human beings, on the thirty-first of October (not that Ingvar knew what an October was, nor that there were thirty-one of them), there was a holiday known as Halloween. And on this Halloween, humans enjoyed dressing up in frightful or silly costumes, and giving each other candy and sweets.
He may not have had any candy to give, but he did have a small basket of apples â the baskets having been so generously provided by his small friend, Hilda â for each of his human friends. Apples were sweet, and delicious, and therefore good for Halloween, weren't they?
Hilda even took the time to write a note in neat cursive:
HAPPY HALLOWEEN
FROM YOUR FAVORITE BIG GUY AND LITTLE LADY
[đ§Şđ] There was a crunch under Docâs boot, as he stepped out from the cozy comforts of home and out into the crisp chill of the Colorado air.
Yet, he hadnât made far, as he came face-to-face with a lone basketâ a gift of mother natureâs sweetest treats. With a curious look, Doc picked up both the basket and the letterâ only for a fond chuckle and a smile that warmed his cheeks to follow right after.
âWhatâs that?â Ophelia called out, and phased her head right on through Docâs chest to take a peek. He barely flinched at the intrusion, far too used to her antics, and handed her the letter with the neat penmanship.
âA treat from no other than our favorite dynamic duo.â
âAw! Thatâs so soo sooo sweet!!!â
Without a moment wasted, Ophelia snagged the very apple Doc was about to bite into, and she hummed in delight (while he groaned). Oo!Yummy!
âMm, hey! You think we can make Ingvar a BIIIG piece of candy for him to try? Pleasepleaseplease?!â
âY'know ⌠thatâs not a half-bad idea.â

@riiese from [This starter prompt]
Dipper is no stranger to the weird and wonderful, he likes to think he's well acquainted with it now that he's spent a great deal of time in Gravity Falls, exploring the many secrets of the town - but that doesn't change the fact that it's dangerous. Going out into the wilderness is dangerous enough alone without the knowledge that monsters could crawl out of any crevice, ones he had no idea how to deal with. It keeps him on edge, listening for movements, for skittering. In fact he's so focused on his surroundings, braced for anything, that he doesn't notice the giant until he's pretty much right in front of him - looking up at the towering figure that had been obscured by the trees until he stepped out into the clearing. He takes in a shocked gasp that he manages to half muffle with his palm, clapping it over his own mouth to shut himself up. Carefully and slowly he starts stepping back tentatively, as though his movements might make up for the way he'd noisily stumbled his way through the underbrush. Sure, not all monsters are bad but he's really not wanting to take any chances and certainly not with one this size!
#Mysteries || Dipper Verse#GIANT || Thread#riiese#sorry it's taken forever to answer that ask#figured I'd do it as a proper starter c:#Feel free to ignore if it's not your vibe!

ING (@riiese): HEARTBEAT (receiver feels senderâs heartbeat for the first time) x
âââđĽâââ
she'd once refused point blank to entertain the idea of literally seeing things from ingvar's vantage-ous point of view- over her dead body, she'd said, if she's remembering right. but, up here, feeling the farthest from dead she's felt in a long time, feeling like she could reach out and grab a handful of cloud or have a birdie fly right into her hands, she's feeling a hell of a lot safer and peaceful up here, in the giant's ever-careful and considerate, delicate hand than down on the cold, hard, unforgiving earth. that is, 'til she feels the force of that big, steady, booming heart of his! the surprise of it almost sending her ass over teakettle and under the damn ground. though, it shouldn't have come as too much of a shock. not really- not with ingvar having as much heart as he does. steadying herself, she puts an ear up against him with a disbelieving little chuckle to hear- to feel- it once more. â my lord- you got a goddamn cannon in there, ing! you really are all heart, ain't you? â

"Please â do not hurt me...!" (-Ingvar)
Though hesitating for a moment, the boy lowers his weapon.
---- Of course for one, Frosting didn't expect to see what could only be described as a literal giant in the area when he went out today. Let alone somehow getting caught off guard by them. When you lived in a world filled with high danger of getting crushed or mauled by wyverns and the like 3x your size, one could probably forgive the boy for reacting the way he did.
He was merely here to gather up a few more medicinal plants and resources for ammo, coming across someone so large... he didn't know what to make of it of course. He's never seen a human so large.
Armed with a glaive in hand, the hunter takes a few steps back in hopes that was enough to show he wasn't going to attack in any way. Dropping the formerly defensive stance he had taken instinctively. This... couldn't have been a more confusing situation to be in.
"I'm sorry I won't... I won't hurt you! I promise! I just-- I just got a little scared, is all,"

For @riiese
The storms of the North Mountains could be akin more to acts of gods than weather. Winds tore exposed flesh as dogs to carcasses, and pillars to the cathedrals of sky gods raised high, stabbing into the aether realm above like the knives of war. All here was rock, ice, and hate for life.
Anything that lived here truly wanted to be left alone, or was so violent as to be shunned by all life. So what was his fool hide doing here?!
Hook was a seaman by trade, but desperate times called for desperate measure, and he was nothing if not desperate. The lack of wars had only strengthened peace time fleets, and that made piracy an even more dangerous profession.
A giant's bounty could feed a crew, tend a ship, and still have money leftover for the frivolities of life, which as a sailing man was just a much a business expense as it was a pleasure. Hook could only flog so many men until they decided to feed him to the sharks for a lack of grog.
So here Hook was - standing at the mouth of a cave, standing in the massive snow-print of his quarry, facing probably his biggest foe yet.
He took a breath, and strode in.
#(and in his head all he can think to himself is i'm fucked i'm fucked i'm fucked#*distant stars*#riiese

riiese asked: this isn't what it looks like. â Ingvar, for Dean talking yourself out of something memes : : OPEN
The forest floor deep in the ravine nestled into the base of a mountain ridge was coated in thick moss and other foliage. He listened to the sounds of the streams and trees groan and twist together with each step he took along the muddy earth. Letting his mind wander, Dean chose to imagine entire civilizations once existing within it all. In all actuality, he was out there lost on the tail end of a hunt that didn't seem worth his time.
He came across a small clearing and forcefully shoved himself through the brush and bushes, batting away spiders and moths that latched to his coat collar and buttons. He took a deep breath, shouldering himself through the remaining vines, tumbling forward across slime laden rocks. Instead of instant frustration it was instant awe... shock maybe when his eyes locked onto the form of a massive creature in front of him. His jaw drops slightly at the sound of their voice and his eyes widen- then almost sarcastically narrow. "Really?" he raises a brow and manages to fold his arms across his chest. "Because it looks exactly like... like it looks, to me." he stumbles over his attempt at wit. "You're not uh... you're not like that guy from the whole.. Jack and the Beanstalk story are you- you don't uh, don't grind my bones, make me into your bread type thing?" he's surprisingly calm for literally encountering a giant.
#riiese#c; ingvar (the giant)#c; dean (there ain't no other men like me)#thank you so much for this ask!#i hope this reply works but if not lemme know and I can definitely change it up!
